Volunteer Oportunity - Kids Fishing Event

We have received the following request for volunteers needed for an upcoming kids fishing event.  Give it some thought about helping so we can discuss at out next meeting.

My name is Michela Williams and I am an intern at the U.S. Forest Service. I  contacted you in October about a fishing trip that, unfortunately, got canceled. I am contacting you now in the hopes that you could help me get volunteers for a children’s campout in May. The Children’s Forest Network is hosting its first campout May 6th-7th at Lake Winfield Field Scott. There will be 30 participants total; 25 kids, and 5 adults.  It is a half day and the participants would rotate into each activity. We are looking to split the kids into groups of 5 with one adult. So there would be a group of 6 total that the volunteers would need to teach.  These children have never been exposed to fishing, so volunteers who are able to teach beginners would be great. Along with volunteers, I would also need fishing supplies. We have poles, but not hooks or bate. If you could please pass this message on to Trout Unlimited volunteers, I would greatly appreciate it.  I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you,
Michela

Foothills February Monthy Meeting

This month, our meeting is on Thursday, February 9th and is once again at our usual spot in the back room of the United Community Bank in Clarkesville.

This month our presenter is our fellow Foothiller, Bob Lux. Bob gets the chance to travel across the country for work/leisure and always tries to sneak his fly rod in his luggage to take advantage of any nearby trout rivers while on his adventures. For some, it can seem pretty intimidating just rolling up to a new state on new water and try to catch some fish. Bob has done his best to come up with a basic plan on what to do in these different locations and will share that with us at our next meeting.

Come join us this Thursday and bring a friend. The social time is around 6:00 - 6:30 with the program starting up at 7:00 and runs to about 8:00.

Date: 02/0917
Time: 6:30 P.M.
Location: United Community Bank, 468 W Louise Street, Clarkesville, GA 30523
Program: Always Bring Your Fly Rod

Please note that all tickets for the Dream Trip Drawing at the "HOOT" that were given to our members for sale need to be turned in at this meeting.

Quilt Raffle for the HOOT!

The quilt that Peggy, Bruce's wife, made will be displayed at Fly show this weekend and will be at the Casting for Recovery booth. We have decided to raffle off. The winning ticket will be drawn at HOOT on 3/11, but tickets will be sold starting this weekend. $10 for 1 or 5 for $40.

The fly fishing show opens at 9am Fri & Sat. Go by and visit Ron Thomas tomorrow at the project healing waters booth. On Saturday if you eat lunch or dinner at Tin Lizzy's, mention project healing waters and 20% of your bill will be donated to project healing waters. The picture below is of the casting for recovery booth set up. Be sure to get quilt raffle tickets at the casting for recovery booth for a chance to win the quilt.
